Wife Giving Her Husband Her Kidney, Asks For Prayers As She Goes Into Surgery

Four years after her husband of 25 years, George Brice, was diagnosed with kidney failure, GourMay Brice is giving him her kidney. She shared the news on FB, along with a video, asking for prayers.
"Almost four years ago my husband was diagnose with kidney failure. Three of those years we waited for family to come forward to help. Doing dialysis at home was overwhelming to me but we did it anyway together. Watching my husband's body change before me was more than I could bare. So I went and got tested to see if I'm a match.
I'm driving home... And I get the call... You are a match for your husband!! ONLY God did this for us!!! What are the odds of me being an Angel for my husband. Surgery is tomorrow and I'm getting nervous and I'm in need of prayers. I know that the blood of Jesus will cover us and God will watch over our surgeons. So I'm asking you ALL to Keep George Brice & GourMay Brice in your prayers cause we will need them. Thanks!" You have our prayers.

We have doctors in Nigeria capable of handling President Buhari's health challenge' - NMA President Mike Ogrima says

President of the Nigeria Medical Association NMA, Mike Ogrima, has refuted claims that Nigerian doctors cannot treat President Buhari's ear, forcing him to travel to the UK to see an ENT doctor.

Speaking to journalists in Jos, Plateau state yesterday June 9th, Ogrima who is a professor of Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgery at the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, said Nigerian doctors are capable of handling any health challenge President Buhari is facing.

“We have 250 TNC surgeon doctors all over Nigeria, capable of handling the health challenge President Muhammadu Buhari is being faced with. Maybe the equipment will not be available for treatment, but we have qualified TNC surgeon doctors We do not know the reason for his referral to UK for treatment because the present administration had made clear that it was not in support of Nigerians seeking medical attention outside the country,”he said.

President Buhari left for the UK on Monday June 6th to rest and also see an Ear, Nose and Throat Doctor.

Night of glamour as Promasidor rewards media excellence

The evening was cool as media practitioners arrived to a warm reception to witness another chapter in the history of Nigerian journalism. The best hands in the profession from various print and online news media were honoured as Promasidor rewarded best journalism practice in the 2016 Quill Awards held recently at the Sheraton Hotel and Towers, Ikeja, Lagos, Nigeria.

The Guardian Newspaper correspondent, Ajibola Amzat, emerged the overall winner in the awards, thereby clinching the prize from the 2014-2015 winner, Taiwo Alimi of The Nation Newspapers. In addition to clinching the overall prize, Amzat also bagged the award for Best Report on Children and Nutrition, thereby making a total of two awards he bagged.

The Nation’s correspondent, Olatunji Ololade with his Sunday Telegraph counterpart, Isioma Madike, with the entry titled: I Do Not Want This Child; and Hunger and The Nigerian Child could not stop Amzat from clinching the prize for that category.

Other correspondents who bagged awards at the event include Olatunji Ololade of The Nation, who won the award for Best CSR and Industry Report of the Year; and Tobi Aworinde of The Punch, the Education Reporter of the Year.

Similarly, The Punch Newspaper correspondent, Tunde Ajaja bagged the award for Future Writer of the Year; Daphne Uduneje of Nigerian Pilot, Brand Advocate of the Year and Kemi Busari of Thevendornews.com, Best Online Reporter of the Year.

Sorrowful Song from the Valley of Iva, an entry for the Best CSR and Industry Report by Ololade, was adjudged the most outstanding compared to Folashade Adebayo’s Abandoned Projects Force Nigerians to Drink Unsafe Water, published by The Punch and Seun Akioye’s A Nation’s Endangered Treasure: 800 Year-Old Nasarawa Salt Mine at Risk of Extinction (The Nation).

Commenting on the awards, Olivier Thiry, Managing Director, Promasidor Nigeria Limited, makers of Cowbell, Onga, Toptea and Loya Milk and organizers of the prestigious Promasidor Quill awards, commended all journalists who submitted entries for the different categories of the awards. Thiry restated Promasidor’s commitment to rewarding excellence in Nigerian journalism through the Quill Awards.

According to him, if the intellectual exertion and the skills required in producing a good report or story is put in perspective, there is no reward that can adequately compensate the effort of journalists in educating the public. His words:
“Based on this realization of the important role of the media in our economy, the management of Promasidor Nigeria in 2012 conceptualized Promasidor Quill Awards with the ultimate goal of assessing, recognizing and rewarding excellence for outstanding journalistic work.”
Apart from the plaques, high-end iPads and the company’s products given to the overall winner, Thiry disclosed that Amzat will be sent to London for an all-expense paid four-week multi-media journalism training course with Thomson Foundation. Thiry added that the overall winner will also be placed on a week’s job placement with a prominent British national news organization before returning to Nigeria. His words:
“This person will be provided with return flight ticket, accommodation in London, daily living allowance and tuition fees for the training.”

Suspect narrate how they killed Army officer, Col. Inusa, in Kaduna

The suspected killers of Colonel Samaila Inusa, yesterday narrated how they kidnapped and later killed the military officer in Kaduna in March. The prime suspect, 44 year old Emeka Okeke, said they did not plan to kill the deceased but that he died while struggling to take their gun from him. Speaking before newsmen while being paraded at the Kaduna state Police command yesterday June 9th, Okeke said;

“Me and my group specialise in car snatching, we are not kidnappers, One Sunday evening, we were on patrol to snatch any vehicle we saw. It was in the process we saw Colonel Inusa’s vehicle coming from Police College down to Refinery Junction and we collected the car. We immediately handed over the car to Dan-Sokoto and he took it away. Then, we took him to Abuja by-pass. I asked him to lie down and relax his mind, because we were only interested in the car, not his life. I told him, you are bigger than this car, and if you live, you will buy another car. Shortly after then, he said he wanted to drink water, so I went to the car to bring pure water for him. As I bent down to give him the water, the man snatched the gun from me and quickly removed the magazine. But one bullet was already in the panel. So, he was holding the gun butt and I was holding the mouth. So, we were dragging the gun. At a point, the gun was facing me and he attempted to pull the trigger, but he could not do that and I succeeded in turning the gun in his direction. He pulled the trigger and fired himself. So, I told him, you know I didn’t want to kill you, but you have killed yourself now. But that man nearly killed me.” he said According to Okeke, they sold the deceased's car for N800, 000.

Nigerian Army reacts to Amnesty International's indicting report

Amnesty International said today Friday June 10th that Nigerian army last month killed at least 17 unarmed members of a group calling for secession, but the military dismissed the allegations as unfounded. An army spokesman said the International Organisation's accusations, the latest in a series of allegations of impropriety leveled against Nigeria's military in the last year, revealed a bias that undermined its credibility. The full statement after the cut..

1.The attention of the 82 Division, Nigerian Army has been drawn to a planned release of report by Amnesty International on the recent violent activities by IPOB and MASSOB on 31st May 2016 in which they were alleging that the Nigerian Army planned the killing of the protesters. This is not true but the usual calculated attempt to rubbish the Security forces in particular and the Nigerian Army just to remain relevant.
2. It should be noted that the Non-governmental organization has always been of the habit of being the judge and jury in matters of our national security without recourse to fairness, objectivity, all aimed at rubbishing the Nigerian Army for reasons best known to them. This could not be far from trying albeit unsuccessfully to be relevant and justify funding.
3. For the avoidance of doubt, what transpired that fateful day was that some elements of MASSOB/IPOB engaged in violent protests which led to outright breakdown of law and order. The pro-Biafra protesters who had chosen the day to mark the 50th Anniversary of Biafra perpetrated a number of unimaginable atrocities to unhinge the reign of peace, security and stability in several parts of Anambra State.
4. A number of persons were selected for attack, killed and burnt. Two personnel of the Nigeria Police were killed, several soldiers were wounded, a Nigeria Police vehicle was completely burnt down while another of the Nigerian Army was vandalized. The strategic Niger Bridge at Onitsha was at the verge of being captured particularly with the coordinated reinforcement of the violent protesters from the Asaba end of the Bridge. In addition, wanton destruction of lives and properties were brazenly carried out by the protesters who employed firearms, crude weapons as well as other volatile cocktails such as acid and dynamites. In consequence, law, order and security were grossly threatened across the State and beyond.
5. The Nigerian Army in synergy with other security agencies under its constitutional mandates for Military Aid to Civil Authority (MACA) and Military Aid to Civil Power (MACP) acted responsively in order to de-escalate the deteriorating security situation. Instructively, the military and other security agencies exercised maximum restraints against the odds of provocative and inexplicable violence that were employed against them by the pro-Biafra protesters. The military and of course the other security agencies acted professionally within the extant Rules of Engagement to successfully de-escalate the budding anarchy.
6.It is rather inconceivable for any individual or group to have decided to inundate the general public with an anecdote of unverified narratives in order to discredit the Nigerian Army in the course of carrying out its constitutional duties despite the premeditated and unprovoked attacks in the hands of the violent pro-Biafra mob as Amnesty International is determined to do.
7. Thank you for your usual cooperation.

Luis Suarez punches glass and flings boots after not being picked to play Uruguay vs Venezuela (video)

Barcelona and Uruguay striker showed his aggressive side after he found out he won't be able to play for Uruguay in their match against Venezuela which they lost 0-1 as they exited the Copa America tournament.

Suarez was under the impression that he would be able to appear for Uruguay as they chased an equaliser against Venezuela, and started warming up towards the end of the match hoping he would be put into the match to salvage a point for Uruguay.

Suarez after warming up, was told by Uruguay coach Oscar Tabarez and the coaching staff that he could not enter the field as he was listed as an injured player.

His reaction was to punch the glass of the players overhead sit and fling his boots. Lol, would he say he wasn't informed before the match that he won't play?? Uruguay are out of the Copa America tournament.

Amnesty International accuses Nigerian Army of killing 17 unarmed Biafra protesters last month

International Human Rights group, Amnesty International, has accused the Nigerian Army of killing at least 17 unarmed members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) during a clash with the group in Anambra state on May 30th.

A statement by Amnesty which was released today June 10th, says investigations carried out by its officials who met with eyewitnesses and also visited morgues and hospitals, indicates that soldiers opened fire on members of IPOB and their supporters in Onitsha, Anambra State during the build up to a march by the group to celebrate Biafra Armed Forces Remembrance day.

Amnesty in its report added that the attack on the unarmed pro-biafrans took place when the military raided homes and a church where IPOB members slept.

The Nigerian Army, however, in a statement released on June 1st, accused the pro-Biafra members of first attacking its officers with weapons such as firearms and dynamites and that the officers shot at the group members in self defence.

The Nigerian military in its statement claimed five members of IPOB were killed, eight wounded while nine were arrested. Amnesty however says this is untrue as its investigation showed that at least 17 people were killed and nearly 50 injured, adding that “the real number is likely to be higher”. "Information gathered by Amnesty International indicates that the deaths of supporters and members of IPOB was the consequence of excessive, and unnecessary use of force," Amnesty said
